Sara treats a lot of pregnant mums – to – be at Exeter Chiropractic Clinic. Treatment is extremely gentle (especially during the first trimester) and specialist techniques are used to encourage the realignment of your back and pelvis. Treatment also focuses on increasing the space that the baby has to move around in, hopefully encouraging your baby to settle in the ideal position.
During pregnancy women experience an increase in the curve in the low back due to increased weight being carried at the front. This change in posture puts more pressure on some of the joints of the spine, causing discomfort, and for some women, pain.
Back pain in pregnancy is very common and affects almost one third of women at some stage during pregnancy. Low back pain and pelvic girdle pain and the most common complaints for women pre and post pregnancy.
An Alternative to OTC Medication
Because pregnant women are often reluctant to take any over-the-counter pain relief or medication, they often turn to chiropractic care to help alleviate pains associated with pregnancy. In addition, we can also offer lifestyle advice (especially postural, nutritional and exercise advice) specific to the expectant mother.
Specialist Training and Experience
Sara has undergone special postgraduate training in treating pregnant women and babies, in addition to the five years training taken when qualifying as a Chiropractor.
Sara also treats a number of mums suffering from post-pregnancy related back pain, often as a result of breastfeeding, poor posture, weight gain and muscle strain (usually a result of carrying around a toddler).
